Introducing the 2025 Volleyball Captain

Volleyball Captain 2025

Hung of Mannes House has become a dedicated and passionate leader in the Marcellin College volleyball program. An alumnus of St Bede’s in Balwyn North, Hung began his volleyball journey at the College in Year 8, quickly developing a love for the sport. His skills and dedication led him to join the 1st team in Year 9, and he officially debuted later that year in a memorable game against Mentone at the close of the AGSV season. Hung’s talent shone brightly in 2023 when he helped Marcellin College secure a silver medal in the Victorian Volleyball Schools Cup (VVSC) Division 1, having gone undefeated throughout the AGSV regular season.

Hung balances his athletic commitments with a full schedule of academic responsibilities and a part-time job. His volleyball season demands rigorous training—he practices four times a week, with two sessions for Heidelberg Volleyball Club on Monday and Thursday nights and two sessions at school on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons. This intensive routine requires careful planning and time management, especially as he juggles VCE subjects like Chemistry, Religion, General Math, English, Visual Communication Design and Accounting. Hung maximizes class time to complete his assignments, helping him avoid late nights and maintain focus across all his commitments.

Hung’s involvement with Heidelberg Volleyball Club’s Division 1 Men’s team and the National Development Program each December has added valuable experience to his athletic career. Competing at this level challenges him to continuously improve his skills while providing him with unique growth opportunities. His journey with Heidelberg has not only strengthened his gameplay but also enriched his leadership abilities, which he brings back to Marcellin College.

As Captain, Hung eagerly anticipates inspiring younger players and fostering a team environment filled with camaraderie and dedication. He aims to instil in them a passion for volleyball and encourages them to engage in club or academy programs outside of school to enhance their skills. His primary advice for junior players is to listen attentively to their coaches’ feedback and to embrace the experience of competing in external programs, which can greatly enhance their game.

Looking ahead, Hung envisions a successful and enjoyable AGSV season where all teams, especially those new to volleyball, can have fun while competing. His goal is to create a positive environment for all players, ensuring they feel motivated and supported. Through his leadership, Hung aims to make the season memorable, bringing out the best in his teammates and promoting a culture of encouragement and enthusiasm for the sport.

Hung Nguyen’s journey reflects Marcellin’s values of perseverance, commitment, and community. His dedication to balancing academics, sport, and leadership roles sets a powerful example, highlighting the spirit of Marcellin College’s student-athletes.

We wish Hung well for the season ahead.
