Introducing the Swimming Captain

Congratulations to Zac who has been named Swim Captain for 2025. A proud member of Mannes House, Zac's journey from Serpell Primary School to becoming a senior leader at Marcellin College is a testament to his hard work.

A Versatile Athlete
Zac's sporting journey at Marcellin began in Year 7 and has been marked by his participation in multiple sports. He has been a consistent presence in the swimming squad from Year 7 through to Year 12, showcasing his prowess in the pool. His talents extend beyond swimming, as he has also played football from Year 7 to Year 12, basketball until Year 10 and water polo from Year 10 to Year 12.

Achievements and Accolades
Zac's list of achievements is impressive. He has represented Marcellin in every AGSV swimming night, with a standout performance in Year 11 where he placed 3rd in the 50m butterfly, earning colours in swimming. His dedication to the sport is evident as he has been the swim carnival year level champion for four consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024). In 2025, Zac's leadership qualities were recognised as he was appointed Mannes House Captain.

Balancing Act: Training and Academics
Balancing rigorous training with academic commitments is no easy feat, especially in Year 12. Zac's weekly schedule is a testament to his discipline:

  • Monday: Football
  • Tuesday: Swimming
  • Wednesday: Football
  • Thursday: Swimming
  • Friday: Swimming

Despite the demanding schedule, Zac ensures he dedicates at least two hours daily to both his studies and physical training. His commitment to academics is unwavering, always prioritising schoolwork while maintaining his athletic pursuits.

Leadership and Vision
As the Swim Captain, Zac is eager to lead by example, encouraging and supporting his teammates. His advice to junior players is simple yet profound: "Continue to learn, grow, and get better at your chosen sport, and aim to lead the group."

Community Involvement
Zac's passion for swimming extends beyond school. He has competed for CA Tritons and Camberwell Grammar Aquatic, reaching state championships and even competing interstate in South Australia, where he reached state championship finals.

Looking Ahead
With the AGSV night on 27 March, fast approaching, Zac's vision for the year is clear: continue to train hard, excel in swimming events, and lead his team to success.

Zac exemplifies the spirit of Marcellin College, balancing academic excellence with sporting prowess. His journey is a testament to what can be achieved with dedication, discipline, and a passion for excellence.

We wish him well.
