Principal's Update 25 November 2022
Dear Members of the Marcellin College Community,
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the 2022 academic year.
Less than 12 months ago we started the year with certain restrictions, but a hope that we would endeavour to (re)connect, respect and grow through a theme that permeated throughout the College. I believe we successfully achieved this in spite of some hurdles along the way. We were able to hold College gatherings, enact new awards assemblies, complete full seasons of Sport, hold our junior and senior productions, welcome the community back on site with Open Days, information evenings and much more.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their approach to the year as we reflect on our Marist characteristics of: Presence, Family Spirit, Simplicity, Love of Work and In the Way of Mary. We are reminded of these every day as we enter the College through our artwork and signage. However, living out the characteristics is what makes Marcellin College a special place.
As we look towards 2023, we will continue to make Marcellin College a school of choice through renewed academic rigour, a strong Pastoral Program and rich faith-based opportunities to become Good Citizens and Good Christians.
We are finalising our student leadership representatives for 2023 and I have been extremely impressed with the calibre of applicants. Our young men have been articulate in expressing what they would like to see next year at the College and how they can contribute to our motto of striving for the highest. This year we saw a larger than usual number of students applying for positions. This reflects the strength in student voice at the College.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers at our end-of-year social event last Friday. The weather was perfect for a night to ‘rewind and relax.’ I am grateful to our Parents & Friends Group for putting together a great evening, and to those who supported the event.
Last night we thanked the many volunteers who supported the College this year across different areas with a Volunteers Dinner. Volunteers are the backbone of any good organisation and at Marcellin College we know how important they are not only to the College, but our students’ learning and engagement with their school. I encourage you all to get involved in 2023 as we move back to a more “normal’ routine. More information about volunteering can be found further below.
As we enter the season of Advent, let us allow Christ to be reborn in our hearts through the celebration of Christmas. I trust you will have a faith-filled Christmas and look forward to working with you all next year.
God Bless.
